I can say that I have had all three types of German shepherds, my first was a frog legged thin chested American line girl named Tasha. She was awesome wonderfully smart great mind but had the worst hips I’ve seen in a while extremely blown out hip sockets she didn’t live long enough to need surgery but she was very light and lean so it’s possible she might not have ever needed it. My second dog was a wonderful straight backed slightly angulated in a stack, perfect in my opinion but he was a bit small probably only 75lbs….and that’s being generous, he was also very smart, but of course I haven’t had a German Shepherd yet that wasn’t extremely smart so that was my black male stud Max and I did pay a pretty penny for him from Sukee kennels and it was well worth it. Now my current pup little Chloe was bought basically sight unseen I drove an hour to get her and ended up in a very rough part of Detroit but I went to the door to see her and they walked out with her in their arms and wouldn’t put her down due to the traffic so she went directly into the back cage for transport…. Fast forward an hour when I got her home and out of the cage and she finally stood up and took a few steps I was horrified… I seen a kangaroo attached to an arched back with a German Shepherd head… Now I’m completely embarrassed and upset about this but she is so sweet I will do my best to keep her comfortable as long as she’s alive now she’s only 6 months old so I haven’t had her x-rayed and I won’t get her spayed until at least two years old if then so for now I’m just crossing my fingers and hoping she will be okay as she grows but she is so low and angulated with such long back legs that she twists them as she walks. So, I don’t know what the future holds for her all I can do is hope but it makes me cringe every time I see her move…. It’s incredibly horrifying to see what we have done to this beautiful breed just to make them into what we think they should look like instead of leaving them how they were!!
